Once again I was lucky enough to be given an advance reading copy of a fabulous debut novel, this time by author Elizabeth Hoyt. It’s the story of the darkly sexy Edward, Earl of Swarthingham and Anna Wren, a penniless widow who accepts a position as the earl’s secretary to make ends meet. Attraction is inevitable. But their growing relationship changes forever when Anna discovers the earl is headed for an infamous brothel and she decides to fulfill her own fantasy by disguising herself to spend just one night in Edward’s arms. Elizabeth Hoyt is a natural storyteller with a true gift for witty dialogue. Woven throughout the story is fanciful tale of The Raven Prince, but believe me, with the steamy love scenes and crackling sexual tension, this is one fairytale you won’t want to miss!

Some summer reading.

July means it’s time to plunge into writing the second book in my Royle sisters trilogy, How to Engage an Earl (June, 2007, Avon). But, it’s summer, so that means I can make a little time to dive into some great books recommended by friends and family. Two nonfiction books are in the top three of my To Be Read pile.

The Mighty and the Almighty: Reflections on America, God and World Affairs
by Madeleine Albright

Recently I was lucky enough to attend a reception and book signing in Washington, D.C. for Madeleine Albright.� She and I both write for the same publisher, HarperCollins, but yes, I still stood in line with everyone else for a signed copy of The Mighty and The Almighty.� Excellent read.

And now for something completely different…

Marley and Me: Life and Love with the World’s Worst Dog
by John Grogan

One of my daughters recommended this book…since it provides proof positive that our dogs are not really the world’s worst dogs.

On the Way to the Wedding
by Julia Quinn

Julia Quinn’s latest has finally hit the shelves! Okay, so it isn’t nonfiction. But it deserves the top spot in my TBR pile because it seems like I have been waiting forever for Gregory Bridgerton’s story! Still, while I can’t wait to read the book, I am going to savor this story like a fabulous piece of chocolate–because its the last bonbon in the box! Alas, Gregory’s story wraps up the Bridgerton series. I miss the Bridgertons already (but I can’t wait to see what Julia Quinn has coming up next.)

When I have a book due in a month or so, I don’t have time to read anything but research books and I can do nothing but stare longingly at my To Be Read pile. But now, I am months away from my next deadline, so here are the books topping my Gotta Read It list at the moment.

Since I just turned in How to Seduce a Duke, my October release for Avon, I decided to start with a Duke theme for May…beginning with books by two of my favorite authors.

One of the perks of being an author is that sometimes I get to enjoy a book before it hits the shelves. Boy oh boy did I get an early holiday present when I laid hands on Good Girls Don’t by Kelley St. John (December 2005, Warner Forever).
