Selections from a teetering To Be Read Pile

When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn

Yes, finally, the next installment of Julia Quinn‘s wonderful Bridgerton series, When He Was Wicked, recently arrived and bypassed my entire to-be-read pile. Its no secret that I love, love, love Julia Quinn novels. And while the Lady Whistledown anthologies are great fun, and I devour them like Godiva truffles, I always look forward to settling down with a new Julia Quinn novel. And this one arrived just in time for the beach! Does life get any better? What? You didn’t read it yet? Fear not. Beach or Autumn afternoon (or Wintery night for that matter), this book makes for a wonderful read.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon

This is the darkly funny story by Mark Haddon of an autistic boy who sets out to solve the murder of his neighbor’s poodle, only to learn more about his own family than he ever wanted to know. Quirky to the nth degree!

The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier

If you loved “Girl with a Pearl Earring”, then you’ll be mesmerized by this story of forbidden love between an artist, commissioned by a nobleman to design a series of grand tapestries, and the nobleman’s beautiful maiden daughter. Their love is impossible for their world–given the great gulf between their classes — thus compelling the artist to express his passion for her through his magnificent tapestries.

The Spy by Celeste Bradley

I’ve been a fan of Celeste Bradley’s Liars Club series since the beginning (check out “The Pretender” and “The Imposter”― you’ll devour them.) “The Spy” is a smart, witty and wildly entertaining Regency-set romance about a daring woman who ensconces herself in the household of the one man she believes holds the key to finding her missing father. What she doesn’t realize is that this same man has a mission of his own: finding the father’s missing daughter! The intriguing plot and hilarious characters will keep you reading ‘til the wee hours. Sleep is not an option― you have been warned.

The Accidental Duchess by Jessica Benson

Think first person, chick lit with a Regency twist and you’ll have an idea what this book by Jessica Benson is like. Find out what happens to Gwen when she thinks she’s married a safe, easy-going man, only to realize …oops, she’s accidentally married his dangerously charming twin brother instead. Witty, clever and fun (my favorite combination.) Publisher: Pocket; (January 2004) ISBN: 0743463862
